Last time I discussed physical outliers in sports who did not use PEDs of any kind. The examples that I gave were Bo Jackson and Mike Tyson. These freaks of nature only come around once in a lifetime. Moreover, you can use all of the steroids that you want, you are either born with phenomenal talent or not. No amount of work, hustle or determination will get you there. You can only develop phenomenal talent, you can’t harness what is not there.
People seem to forget phenomenal some of the most phenomenal human beings to walk this planet because there is a new superstar on television now. In the process many people equate being a talented athlete with being a physical phenom. So, I’m going to start naming more supremely gifted legends that are unique in the history of sports.
- Bob “Bullet” Hayes: Bob Hayes was a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys who, as his name implies, was very fast. Not only was he the fastest player on the Dallas Cowboys, not only was he the fastest player in the NFL, he was the fastest man on the planet. And he earned two Gold medals in the 1964 olympics to prove it. He was so good and fast that it was because of Bob Hayes that football teams instituted zone defenses. Before then everyone would play man to man, but Bob was just too fast for that.

- Wilt Chamberlain: Before Lebron James or Jordan or Magic Johnson or Kobe, there was Wilt. And make no mistake. Wilt Chaimberlain was the strongest, most physically dominating player that HAS EVER LIVED! He was a freak of nature that would physically dominate Shaquille O’Neal. He is the only NBA player to have a 100 point game (Philadelphia Warriors vs New York Knicks). Body builders, power lifters and college recruiters marveled at his size, agility and super-human strength. Don’t take my word for it. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger marveled at how strong Wilt Chamberlain was. The guy was a physical specimen.
Until next time …
