A few months ago, I had a conversation with a parent who has his kid playing pop-warner football. He was saying that, high school was as far as he would push his kid to play football. The reason being is that “all of the pros do steroids.” He went on to say, “whether it’s MMA, baseball, boxing or football you are going to take steroids just to stay in the game.” This seems to be the reasoning that even a few YouTube personalities have. They say, “you gotta do what you gotta do” or “what does it matter to you if he or she is doing steroids.” While it’s true that there are a lot of professional athletes in football, mma, baseball and bodybuilding who take steroids, there are genetic freaks who do not use any illegal performance enhancing drugs. These people who have chosen to not use PEDs are the reason why others do use PED’s. They are just so naturally gifted that they raise the bar for everyone else.
Here is a list of athletes who I believe were free of PEDs while competing at the highest levels of their sport. The list goes like this:
- Bo Jackson: Not only was Bo Jackson a Heisman Trophy winner at Auburn. He went on to have professional careers in baseball and football and was a superstar at both. Moreover, he was selected in the first round by the New York Yankees. When I was a kid, I remember him doing feets of superhuman strength, even on the baseball field. For example, sometimes he would get angry and lose his temper. How he acted out was break a baseball bat over his knee. NOT MANY PEOPLE CAN DO THAT. I would break my knee trying to do that. This is the same athlete who ran a 4.13 in the 40. Yet, not only did Bo Jackson not use steroids, he didn’t use any supplements. Bo Jackson was the truth.
- Mike Tyson: This phenom from Bedstuy, Brooklyn was such a natural puncher that he became Heavy Weight champion of the world by the time he was 19, but he didn’t start training until he was 14. Mike Tyson never used steroids. He was a natural born beast and his punching power was second to none. In his prime, Tyson was the best that ever did it. Mike Tyson’s punches were so powerful that once when he got into a street fight (with heavyweight contender Mitch Green) he hit Green so hard … well, you be the judge.
