What Does it Mean to Be Functionally Strong

If there is one word that is overused by the fitness community it is the term “functional.” Everyone is talking about functional strength. But what is functional strength?

Functional strength is the strength that people use day in and day out. It refers to our ability to lift things and put them down, stand up from a laying position or lay down from a standing position. It can also refer to how we move our own bodyweight. For example, a person may be able to squat 500 lbs, yet be unable to do a single pull up. This would be an example of someone who was gym strong but functionally weak.

In the world of sports, functional weakness reduces a persons ability to perform and increases the likelihood of injury.

Without functional strength, you cannot explode from the line of scrimmage or slam dunk a basketball. A lack of functional strength will make it difficult to complete a judo throw are shoot a double leg in a wrestling match.

If you want your little warrior to be the absolute best that he (or she) can be, you need to get this program for functional strength.

Until next time …
